My journey as an educator began in the fall of 1966. I moved into the Women's YMCA in Joplin Mo. It was three blocks from Jasper County Junior College (old Memorial High School). For the first year of college I walked to class (or hitched a ride when I could) and worked for the education department as a student aide! I met two girls from Illinois at the Y and the next year we moved into the upstairs of a home on North Madison in Webb City when Jasper Co Junior College became Missouri Southern State College where it is now Missouri Southern State University! We had one car; all went to class at the same time and came home in that one car! I went to summer school carrying as many hours as I could cram in! Worked as a waitress in the summer when I was not in class. I did my student teaching in 6th grade in the Lamar School District in the fall of 1969. I finished my BS in Elementary Education K-6 and a 7-9 social studies certificate in 3 1/2 years. That's how my journey began and 51 or 52 years later I continue that journey! Best gig EVER! Still learning . . .every day!
